Where Does The Time Go?

Does time really go anywhere?

Does time really go anywhere?

I see so many people commenting on Facebook and elsewhere about time, and lack of it.

“Where does the time go?”

“Come on, Friday”

“I can’t wait until Christmas is over!”

That last one tends to get so much support from friends and family. So many people are being pulled through the Christmas holiday by a misconception that has been planted in their heads, and filled with guilt and resentment. “We’ve gotta battle the crowds. We’ve gotta buy everyone gifts. Where IS the time GOING???”

How are so many of us missing the point? Now, I’ve done some research on the history behind the ‘reason for the season’, so I’m not interested in arguing about fact vs. custom. What I am interested in saying is that no matter what season it is, we are missing the point!!!

What’s the big rush? How much will things really change for you once Christmas is over? Won’t there be something else to rush to? Dance classes, kitchen duty, WORK?! You can’t wait for Friday, but then spend all weekend cleaning up a house and yelling at those who dirtied it, so you can waste a weekend, too? Oops…and there’s Monday again. Coming right around the corner. At what point do we pull off the blinders and realize that time isn’t real? Time is something we’ve constructed, likely for a valid reason to begin with, but now it’s been misused, abused and turned into the enemy.

What is the difference between tomorrow and today? Most of us are in a rut anyway. We do the same things and cultivate the same habits over and over and over. The only way tomorrow will ever be different from today is if we are genuinely looking within and paying attention to the whole truth inside ourselves. At that point we grow rapidly as human beings and are able to wake up to a whole new day, each and ever day.

But beyond that, time is an illusion. There is no tomorrow. There is only today and today is a krazillion years long. And guess what. We have that ‘time’ all the time! Each of us has all the time in the world because right now is always in our pockets, in our schedules and in our presence. Is this starting to make sense? Where are you rushing to get to? You’ll never get anywhere but the present moment. No matter how fast you go, how grumpy you get, or how loudly you plead. Forget about tomorrow. Forget about getting through Christmas, or the weekend, or a busy week. Be there, right where you are, right now. Cause you can’t be anywhere else. It’s never going to happen. Let go of the misery you create for yourself and just allow everything to be what it is.

And for the love of peace and harmony….HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS…even if you don’t celebrate it. It’s a day. It’s already come and it’s already gone, for eternity. It’s a slot in time reserved for merriment and good tidings, but shouldn’t every slot in time be filled with those things? Who’s with me? Let’s start spreading joy right now, and stop being concerned with a tomorrow that doesn’t exist.

So true, with so much to stay on top of though how do you balnce it all?

  2. Jeannie Says:

You stay with each thing as you’re working on it, and don’t worry about what’s next until you get there. :) It IS difficult to balance everything, but it all gets done sooner or later, and worrying about the things that aren’t yet complete keeps you less focused on what you are currently involved in. Staying in the moment actually creates MORE time because you are more focused and therefore, more efficient. Thanks for your comment…sending love and light your way.
